Primary Care Provider – Your Partner in Healthcare

A primary care doctor can help with short-term problems and take care of you over time, making them a crucial partner for your health. Here are five reasons why having a primary care doctor matters:

  1. Consistency: They know your health history and provide personalized care.
  2. Prevention: Annual check-ups and vaccinations to keep you healthy.
  3. Disease Management: Help you manage long-term illnesses like diabetes and hypertension.
  4. Coordination: They interpret results from specialists, labs, and other healthcare providers to guide your next steps.
  5. Cost-Effective: Reduce the need for expensive treatments through early intervention. They also help avoid duplicate testing and offer in-office lab work and imaging at a lower cost than the hospital.

Types of Primary Care

At PEHP, we believe in giving our members the freedom to choose where they go for healthcare. Below are three options for your primary care needs.

Female Doctor

In-Network Doctors

You can visit a primary care doctor that is contracted with PEHP in your network. After your visit, your doctor will submit a claim to PEHP for the services you received. Once processed, we’ll send you an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) detailing the services rendered, the amounts billed, the portion covered by PEHP, along with any credits to your plan limits (deductible/out-of-pocket max).

Find a primary care doctor in your network in the Provider Directory under Provider Specialty » Family Practice.

Direct Primary Care (DPC)

Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a subscription-based model where you pay an independent doctor a monthly fee for all your primary care needs. Although DPC providers do not contract with insurance companies, PEHP helps you pay your monthly fee.

Reimbursement Eligibility

  • You must have primary coverage with PEHP that includes out-of-network benefits. To verify if you have out-of-network benefits, refer to your Benefits Summary and Master Policy.
  • You must submit the Direct Primary Care Subscription Reimbursement Form along with proof of payment for a minimum of three months of service. If you cancel your membership with your DPC provider after three months (for example, in the fifth month), you can seek reimbursement from PEHP for the remaining two months.
  • You must not have received primary care services from another provider during the period for which you are seeking reimbursement.

How Much Does PEHP Reimburse for DPC Services?

  • PEHP reimburses the lesser of the paid amount or a flat fee allowed amount of $38.67 per month for adults and $19.12 per month for children (ages 2-18 only), regardless of your actual payment.
  • Separate reimbursements are available for lab work, imaging, and Durable Medical Equipment (DME) according to your out-of-network benefits.

Important! Reimbursement does NOT apply to coinsurance or copays. However, the amount reimbursed will count toward your deductible.
